Panic attacks often seem to come “out of the blue.” All at once, with no warning, a person begins to be overcome with debilitating anxiety. But what causes panic attacks? Why did this wave of anxiety strike this particular person at this particular time? While the answer to these questions can be complex, the motivation of the questions is simple: What panic sufferers really want is an end to the panic attacks. Understanding what causes panic attacks is fine, but only if it helps you predict the gathering storm of anxiety so that you can avoid it. If a person is ignorant of what causes panic attacks, then they will feel surprised and helpless when a panic attack suddenly strikes them.

If you know somebody with depressive disorder, they may need your help! Even though they will most likely never seek help, they may need it.
For somebody who has never suffered from depressive disorder it can be very difficult to understand. A lot of people still look at someone with a depressive disorder as a whiner and frequently wonder ‘what have they got to be depressed about’.
Whether a person actually seems to have something to be depressed about or not is entirely beside the point. For somebody suffering from never-ending depression, the illness is part of their life even though they might not appear to have anything overly traumatic happening in their life at the particular time.

There is no shame in admitting that you’re suffering from depression; on the contrary, you are that much stronger for having taken the first steps to deal with it instead of hiding it away and letting it silently take its toll on your life. If you suffer from mood swings, panic attacks, or general feelings of depression, find someone who will listen to you. Even if that means going to a therapist, talking about what you’re experiencing can help you solidify exactly what’s wrong and figure out how to deal with it.

Depression is a mental disorder that manifests itself through symptoms like depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep or appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. In a severe case of depression, the individual suffering from depression may resort to committing suicide. These problems can become chronic or recurrent and lead to substantial impairments in an individual’s ability to take care of his or her everyday responsibilities.
Depression is of 2 types: The sad kind, also known as major depression, or dysthymia; and manic depression or bipolar illness, when feeling low and depressed alternates with being wild and reckless.

Addictions come in all shapes and forms. Difficult to define exactly, it has become popular to think of almost any behavior that has a compulsive quality as an “addiction.” But for those who have an addiction, or for those affected by the addiction of a loved one or close friend, it’s clear what an addiction means in “real” terms.
The relationship between mental health issues and substance use is convoluted. According to research gathered at the Centre for Addictions and Mental Health in Ontario, more than half of people with substance use disorders also have mental health issues such as anxiety or depression. Some people with mental health problems use different substances to self-medicate, but end up making things worse.

The symptoms of SAD can range from a relatively mild form known as the winter blues or depression, to a more severe type of clinical depression. The winter blues affects a larger number of people than the more severe form of clinical depression. Both seem to disappear just as soon as daylight hours full of sunshine start to increase in the spring.
